What grants are available ?

Below is a general outline.

1. Woodland Establishment Grant Scheme ( " tree grant " ) usually covers the cost of planting & maintaining a new woodland for 5 years.

• The smallest area that qualifies is 0.2 Hectares (¹/₂ acre).
• Livestock must be excluded and this leads to the second grant available : -

2. Farm Woodland Premium Scheme ( " grass money " ) is an annual payment to the landowner to compensate for the loss of income on the planted land.

• A minimum of 1.0 Hectare (2 ¹/₂ acres) must be planted.

• Payments from £60 / Ha (£25 / acre) to £260 / Ha (£105 / acre) depending on how your land is classified (LFA or Lowland) and the type of grazing.
